H2020-EIC-FTI-2018-2020: Virus border controls security project is seeking partners for industrialisation of sensors and market introduction

Country of Origin: Spain
Reference Number: RDES20200925001
Publication Date: 25 September 2020

Summary

Spanish technology center is working in a fast track to innovation (FTI) proposal for lunching to market virus detection technology for the control and security in airports. The consortia looks for coordinator partner charged of the industrialization and the commercialization of the device. Experience on medical devices and/or expertise in the security field are welcome.

Description

COVID-19 pandemic has had a huge and direct impact on the air traffic which has been highly restricted to avoid the virus spread, so new instruments for the fast and cheap identification of viruses from the day zero of a new outbreak are essentials.
Spanish technology center has developed a new concept of virus detection for some years and now, it is the perfect moment for completing the development and reach the market, specially the border control market. The proposed technology, validated up TRL 6, is based upon high resolution ion mobility analysis and the aims of the project are mainly 3:
i) complete the validation of the sensor with some virus samples
ii) validate the system in clinical trials
iii) reach the market

The consortium is actually formed by a Greek partner (in charge of electronic issues), an Italian partner (in charge of the clinical trials), a Spanish National R&D institution (in charge of samples supply) and the Spanish technology center (in charge of the technology). The project has a letter of support of a security multinational company.

As FTI (Fast Track for Innovation) program is focused on industry to complete the consortium, they look for an industrial partner, with expertise in industrialization, and market uptake. The fields of activity of the desired partner are medical devices and/or border control/security. The interested partner will be in charge of the coordinating the project; experience in this role is welcome.

The official deadline for the call is October 27th, 2020 and the deadline for expressions of interests is October 9th. The total duration of the project will be 2 years.

Advantages and Innovations

There is not instrumentation for a precise, fast and cheap virus analysis, so air traffic has plummeted when a population control has been required. The main innovation of the proposed solution is the analysis speed (< 20 min) and the price (1.5€/analysis) which fully suits with the current demand.

Requested partner

The partner should be:
• Industrial (preferable medium size, but no size restrictions)
• Experience in the medical devices field
• Experience in the security markets (optional)
• Role: coordinator of the project (no coordination of the proposal), industrialization of the sensor and responsible of market introduction
• No R&D skills in the field are required

The required partner can be from any European State member, except Spain.
