Description

Spanish manufacturer of slabs have developed a new generation of ecological pavement for indoor and outdoor applications, based on air purifying. The applied technology combats pollution through a natural oxidation process similar to plant photosynthesis. This decontaminating power remains unaltered throughout its life cycle, having an unlimited activity.

This technology addresses a global problem in the major cities around the world because of the urban pollution on account of the car traffic, mainly. They are the only company with the certification of maximum efficiency in the removal of NOx (level 3 according to UNE 127.197-1).
Many field studies have been carried out in order to test its efficiency in a great number of facilities. It has been observed a mean reduction of 60 % in de levels of nitrogen oxides (NOx) and a 67 % in the levels of particulate matter (PM).

Therefore this technology presents an important improvement, as long as it has a direct effect on the air quality of buildings and urban areas, and consequently this fact affects to the human health. It is proved that thanks to this technology air pollution is reduced, and as result it's reduced the number of diseases and health problems caused by pollution.

The slabs are made in two layers. The surface layer (thickness about 10 mm), that includes the mix of catalyst, and that is the responsible of the decontaminating activity. This thickness of the layer guarantees the presence of an active surface layer during more than 25 years, in spite of abrasion processes. The base layer is made with recycled materials, and is the one that confers resistance to the material.

The described technology can be applicable by concrete producers, mainly for indoor and outdoor, and also by producers of slabs for ventilated facade.

They are looking for other manufacturing companies which could be interested in incorporating this technology to its products. The know how and technology of the production system is easily transferable to any producer of concrete slabs. For this reason, their main goal is carrying out a technology transfer, as well as the transfer of the rights of use of the patent to concrete manufacturers in foreign countries.

-	This technology has certified high levels of efficiency in the reduction of pollutants tested in field studies, and it’s been granted with an external certification. These characteristics are not present in the market competitors. 

- It is able to reduce pollution in dark conditions and indoor applications, while the rest of products are only active with the radiance of natural light. This is due to the use of a mix of new generation of organometallic catalysts developed by the company and not available in the market.
