Description

Frailty is increasingly affecting an ageing population - a consequence of a cumulative decline in many physiological systems during one’s lifetime. This cumulative decline reduces homoeostatic reserves until minor stress events generate disproportionate changes in one’s health status. The challenge is to develop more efficient methods to support frail elderly people in maintaining their independence and well-being. 

An Italian company active in the ICT sector has developed an  assistive technology platform and a device that is elderly-friendly, able to monitor their health and supports empowerment - either automatically or through contact with human operators - with the goal of slowing the decline of physical, cognitive and social aspects. By integrating the television and the telephone, the company patented a device that combines the two technologies and transforms them into a powerful and easy-to-use interactive communication platform.

This assistive technology allows elderly people to retain their independence by monitoring their safety and helping them in their daily routine, eg. with ad hoc reminders to take their medication. The company is looking for financial partners to launch the production and/or industrial partners in the healthcare sector to license the technology and further develop the product.
