Innovation & Technology Request

A German recycling company is looking for an innovative sorting technology for multilayer trays

Country of Origin: Germany
Reference Number: TRDE20190709001
Publication Date: 17 July 2019

Summary

A German enterprise with a long tradition in the field of waste management and recycling is looking for a sorting technology, which can fractionate mixed postconsumer multilayer trays in specific fractions. Preferred is a commercial agreement with technical assistance.

Description

Since January 2019 the new packing directive on packing and packing waste (2018/852 L 150/ pp141 14.06.2018) replaced the existing rules and focused on quantitative more recycling and reuse of waste.
According published statistics by the German environmental agency 46 % of the plastic waste were recycled. The majority of the plastic waste has been converted in energy in incinerators. That small share of recycled plastic waste is caused by high challenges in the recycling of multilayer packaging (mixed plastic fractions).
That challenges might be overcome by chemical recycling. That why the company is active in the development of a chemical recycling process. In preparation for that process a sorting technology is sought, which is able to group mixed postconsumer multilayer trays in following fractions:
PE/PA - Polyethylen (PE), Polyamide (PA)
PET/PE- Polyethylenterephthalat (PET)/ Polyethylen (PE),
PET/PA Polyethylenterephthalat (PET)/ Polyamide (PA).
The development engineers for the sorting process machinery are sought for a commercial agreement with technical assistance to realize this sorting requirements. The potential partner should be able to accompany the introduction and implementation of the expected solution under real conditions.

Expertise sought

Specific parameters and preconditions of the sorting technology
i) The width of the sorting technology should be in the range of 1,40-1,80 m.
ii) It should be mountable on an accelerating black rubber belt conveyor.
iii) The technology must handle mixed postconsumer waste with a throughput of at least 3 t/h up to a maximum of 8 t/h.
iv) It should be 50 Hz compatible.

Requested partner

The potential partner should provide a sorting technology within a commercial agreement with technical assistance. The expected partner has to prove by running tests that the requirements are completely fulfilled and have documented these with test material provided by the company.
Preferred is a partner based in the European Union, but every other country can be also possible.
