Innovation & Technology Request

Technical expertise sought for developing algoritms aimed at assessing the integrity of industrial plants.

Country of Origin: Italy
Reference Number: TRIT20180201001
Publication Date: 1 February 2018

Summary

An Italian software house, providing integrated solutions for industrial plants, intends to improve its service offer by integrating a sophisticated assessment of metallurgical conditions to the common asset integrity practices to optimize procedures and keep a high safety level. To this end, it is looking for a partner for a technical cooperation agreement, to develop suitable algorithms in order to verify the proper integrity status of equipment according to a Fitness For Service approach.

Description

An Italian software house established in 1989, specialized in the development of Software Solutions and in supplying integrated Services for the Chemical, Petrochemical, Energy, Utility and other industrial sectors, as regards verifying asset integrity and relative document management coordination, is looking for a technical partner to develop and implement a software for the quantitative assessment of the Fitness For Service of pressure equipment. This software will be placed on an already existing IT platform, whose function is to manage the inspection and maintenance of the plant equipment so that to improve the range and quality of services.
The partner sought should set up and deliver in a proper exchange format suitable technical algorithms able to verify the proper integrity status of pressure equipment in Oil&Gas and Chemical production plants.
In contrast to the straightforward and conservative calculations that are typically found in design codes, a more sophisticated assessment of metallurgical conditions and analysis of local stresses and strains can more precisely indicate: whether operating equipment is fit for its intended service or whether particular fabrication defects or in-service deterioration threaten its integrity.
Such an analysis offers a knowledge basis for deciding to run the plant as it is or to alter, repair, monitor, retire or replace the equipment.
Inserting this tool in a structured IT system will permit to place the activity in a high-level process that integrates many other technical data, activities and documentation in order to optimize a critical plant management and ensure a proper safety level.
The analysis process is based on the integration of theoretical data (physical conditions, type of fluid, materials) and data that derive from the inspection activity. The process of assessing an equipment starts in presence of defects or in-service damage mechanisms and involves an analysis phase and an inspection phase that should accompany the entire useful life of the equipment.
Monitoring of equipment with defects combined with the creation of targeted inspection plans (according to the risk level) enables the optimization of costs and the overall safety level of the plant.
The reference standard is API 579 in the latest revision available.
The integration of graphic and interactive tools is an innovative and essential feature for the application of such analysis methodologies. In particular, the visualization of the 3D models of plants and the laser scanning visualization is available.
It is possible to locate the object of risk studies directly in a virtual reality that provides information on the location and near installations.
