Efficient renewable/waste heat management through intelligent thermochemical heat transformer

Country of Origin: Germany
Reference Number: TODE20181108001
Publication Date: 13 November 2018

Summary

A German institute focused on applied science looks for partners (equipment manufacturer, system supplier or product distributor) to optimize and commercialize a thermochemical heat transformer for the recovery of renewable/waste heat. In particular, they are interested in a licence, Joint Venture or technological cooperation agreement with partners experienced in designing, optimizing, constructing and selling energy efficient thermal systems for industrial and tertiary applications.

Description

The German research institute develops and optimizes processes, products and technologies in the business fields of health, chemistry and process industry, as well as environment and energy. This institute has a large experience in conducting research and development projects funded by both public (European and national) and private entities. Its main objective is to bring the developed products and technologies on the market.

The research institute has developed a thermochemical heat transformation system that allows to make use of industrial waste heat very efficiently and which is of interest for a large number of industrial applications (food processing, paper industry, cement industry, chemical industry…) as well as for heating and cooling of buildings.

By adjusting the process control, the waste heat can be stored and released at different temperature levels depending on the needs. With this technology one single product can cover a large range of applications, from space/process cooling (10-20°C) to steam production (200-250°C). If required the stored heat can be transported and delivered to suitable places where the heat is needed.

The research institute is looking for a technology provider in the field of thermal engineering to reach an agreement which terms need to be discussed. The partner should actively support and contribute to the optimization of the technology under a technical agreement and they also need a partner willing to introduce the developed product into the market which could be in the frame of a licence agreement. Another possible form of co-operation could also be a Joint Venture.

Advantages and Innovations

The main advantage of the technology is its flexibility. It can be integrated in any kind of industrial process or thermal system which operational temperature comprises between 10 and 250°C. The technology can be used as pure storage technology, i.e. store heat at given temperature and release it at the same range of temperature without heat losses (efficiency close to 100%) and also as heat transformer, i.e. store heat at given temperature and release at a higher temperature with an efficiency of around 50%. This specific feature makes this technology of special interest because it allows to make use of any kind of renewable/waste heat, even below 50-60°C. In addition, this technology allows to supply heating and cooling simultaneously which may increase the global system efficiency significantly (150% efficiency in storage mode, 100% in heat transformer mode). This technology is very promising for a large number of industrial applications (food processing, paper industry, cement industry, chemical industry…) as well as for heating and cooling of buildings. All these features make it very attractive in terms of possible reached market share.
