Seeking partnership with device makers for integration of internet of things (IoT) technology

Country of Origin: Singapore
Reference Number: TOSG20180306001
Publication Date: 6 March 2018

Summary

The company is a Singapore-based SME Internet of Things (IoT) solutions provider with over 10 offices in Asia.

Device makers can leverage a full-stack IoT team (Hardware/Software/Cloud Development) to increase time to market, avoid hefty development costs and risks and enhance the quality of their products.

The SME is keen to partner device makers of all sizes through licensing and commercial agreement who are keen on integrating IoT into their existing products.

Description

About the company:

The Singapore-based has offices across Asia with two core teams:

i) an engineering Research & Development team which does the technical research and development of hardware, software and cloud server as well as

ii) a strategic consultation team that works with device makers in order to understand the needs and requirements of the product so as to execute the project.

About the technology:

A full stack IoT transformation involves overhauling both the hardware & software management system that was traditionally associated with the device. This includes development in hardware electronics, software management systems and the cloud server, all of which will allow for gathering of big data for future analytics. The solution developed by the Singapore SME will conduct this transformation at minimal cost & effort.

Comprising both hardware & software technologies, the solution incorporates mature IoT technology into components and introduces new flagship smart components. This will allow its partners to bring their businesses into the digital age through integration with IoT, allowing them to harness the potential of the interconnected ecosystem for planning, monitoring, pre-emption and increase of potential revenue streams.

In terms of hardware, an electronic component based on research and optimisation will be inserted into the smart components produced by Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) so as to allow it to communicate with the cloud server.

In terms of cloud server, the technology includes an asynchronous cloud server that it optimizes and features a reduction in reaction time in proportion to the increase in the number of connected devices.

The cloud server mentioned is also flexible in nature, allowing for an easy integration of an unlimited number of additional servers ranging from raspberry pi home servers to IBM industrial servers. Its server also features high security with Transport Layer Security (TLS) & Public Key Encryption in order to protect collected data during transmission. This allows for efficient usage, fuss-free maintenance and the collection of vital usage data for analysis and feedback to users.

Unique component characteristics are also taken into consideration in the design of smart components to include automated alerts for routine component maintenance and repair when necessary. It also addresses future data collection, analysis & protection needs.

In terms of software, the IoT system also features an in-house developed mobile app & web usage interfaces for users as well as developed compatibility for Amazon Alexa & Google Home in order to enable voice control functions.

The IoT technology platform developed by the Singapore SME can be applied to device makers who are looking to integrate IoT into their existing devices.

Its expertise encompasses a wide variety of electromechanical devices ranging from smart lighting to smart heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.

The Singapore SME seeks to partner SMEs of all sizes or MNEs who are keen to leverage this platform through the following types of cooperation:

- Licensing agreement so as to introduce new products to the market. The partner can license the technology for further development and offer it to their customers.

- Commercial agreement with assistance to establish a joint working partnerships to expand its customers outreach. The partner can offer this technology to their customers with technical support from the Singapore SME.

Advantages and Innovations

The solution will allow for a completed IoT transformation process within a short period of three months. The experience and expertise of the Singapore SME in online retail and traditional distribution of past products will allow the sales process of these products to be optimised as well.

Their vast experience in the building industry also ensures that the team is able to take into consideration industry-unique factors when tailoring the IoT upgrading plan to best harness opportunities

A case study for a past project involves a smart lighting implementation for one of its clients, a Singapore University, where the company was able to complete the project of 32 lights in 3 hours with minimal disruption to office activities through a fuss-free installation process. The project later helped the client to save 50% of its office lighting costs.

Compared to other prevailing technologies, this technology allows device makers to easily and quickly implement the IoT solution for their clients as seen in the above case study, reducing costs and turnaround time which are crucial factors in the delivery of any systems integration implementations.
